OUTDATED BRAIN, YET UPDATED DRESS
It was an event that forced me to travel that day and the program was to be the following day as usual I called a friend to inform her that I was in town and would probably lodge in her place, she responded "No problem".
When I got to her house, I met some persons that also came for the same event and would be lodging in her house too. They were lively people and before I knew it, we started talking about life and especially about youths and my buddy Naomi said something that refused to leave my mind up till now. She mentioned, "So many people are walking about with outdated brain yet with updated dress".
Those words rang in my head as though someone had hit me with a rod. Outdated brain yet with updated dress. And I began to cast my mind back to some young people I have met before, how all their lives has been almost about the latest dress and getting the latest things but never cared for their own lives, they never thought of affecting lives, they do not have any true reason to leave rather getting the latest mundane things.
I'm not against taking care of oneself, of course I take time to take care of my own self, why then should I speak ill against it! But check yourself very well, apart from trying to meet up with the latest dress in town and the latest club house what else do you know? How are you preparing to make impacts? It is said that if you're not part of those that are solving problems, then, you're among those that are creating it.
A lot of us are complaining about the leadership of this country and sometimes if some youths talk about the situation of things I used to ask myself: "Are these people even ready, we complain about youths being marginalized but the fact is, very little percentage of Nigerian youths are ready to take up the task.
You walk about with the latest dress yet if five teenagers are left under your care to nurture them to maturity with good moral, you cannot. If you can't nurture just five teenagers how then are you going to represent your senatorial district? How are you going to govern your state, let alone the whole country.
In conclusion, in as much as is good to look nice, you also need to get knowledge, don't just walk around with empty brain. Human development is very important, serious people will not just stop at your outer look, they will want to tap into your knowledge and if they discovered you've nothing to offer they will quietly leave you. Be beautiful, but be brainy!
